Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo

Hi Gina, I liked you, well actually your macaroon cover picture, on facebook ๐ I would LOVE to win this device. I have had a few rough couple of months upon returning to work and stress has robbed me of sleep and caused some medical issues that I am working to get past. I am in serious need for some motivation. I went from being a fitnessista to having very low energy and drive. I have looked into one of these “body bugs” before and just have never purchased due to cost. thanks for the great give aways and keeping us in mind! ๐
My current goal is to tone up my arms for my upcoming wedding in June!
…And I’m already a FB fan!
My goal is to get stronger! I just started working at a gym, and for the first time ever I’m regularly strength training. It’s amazing how much of a difference lifting weights makes in how I look and feel about myself. This is such an awesome giveaway!
Oh my gosh, this device is awesome! I just started regularly strength training and my hunger levels have shot up, but I have no idea how many calories I’m actually burning. I would love to have one of these while I try to meet my goal of losing 8 pounds and getting stronger! ๐
My goal is to finally lose these 10lbs that will not budge so i can feel good about myself again.
My goal: to get my cross country team to state champs and get my own pr in my 7th marathOn this fall!!!
reduce jiggle!! constant traveling for work is taking a toll and i’m not a fan anymore!
I would love this! My goal right now is to be as healthy as I can be. Thanks!
I’m trying to lose (gulp!) 200 pounds. I’m down ten now, and looking forward to this journey I’m on. I’ve given up on using any prescribed diet plans, and am just eating as healthy as I can, dropping all processed and fast foods, and putting one foot in front of the other out the door for now. I hope to get in the gym soon, when I don’t feel so self-conscious, as Zumba looks soooo fun.
I’ve been reading you a while, and love postings of what you eat. It’s almost like I’m instantly aware of all this great really healthy food out there…where have I been!?
I am turning flirty 30 in a few days and am trying to get back into a workout routine. I started a new job, moved, and started dating an amazing guy all in the last few months which took time away from my fitness. I am ready to get strong and make 30 better than ever! Early bday present? Haha
Currently I’m training for a full marathon but my real goal is to be as healthy as I can. Loose a few pounds and gain muscle definition.
My current fitness goal is to shed fat. I tend to have a difficult time with this but no trouble building strength and muscle. I think that having this would really help me to reach my goal!!!
I am already LOVING me some fitnessista on FB! ๐
Just trying to tighte
n up and lose about 10-15 lbs.
I want to get leaner and faster!
I want to do 10 push-ups with proper form and 5 pull-ups.
My fitness goal is to get back to my pre-college weight. Ironically I was thinner before college but had horrible eating habits. Now my eating habits are awesome but I put on the freshman 15 from stress. This looks like a fun fitness too!
my current fitness goal is to run a half marathon. running as never been easy for me, but I know when I cross that finish line it will all be worth it. I may not be the fastest.. but I LOVE it ๐ I’m already a facebook fan!
The teachers at my school started a fitness program this week and I am excited for the extra motivation to move and get physically fit. At the first weigh in I found out my Body Fat Percentage and would like to lower that number. Thank you for sharing a tech fitness gadget ๐
I want to strengthen not only my physical but my mental core.
My goal right now is to do an unassisted pull up. Still have got a long way to go ๐
I love fitness technology too! I started crossfit this summer and my goal is to get stronger – do pull ups, handstands and of course reduce fat.
I was just saying TODAY during my walk/run with a friend that I really need one of these!! I never know how many calories I am burning in the variety of workouts I choose each day. My health issues cause my weight to fluctuate so much that its depressing! I would love to get the body back to lean & strong like it was even just a few weeks ago. I think this would help me see what’s working & how to keep my weight stable.
I’m not on Facebook otherwise I’d like your page.
I love reading your encouraging posts, by the way. Such good tips & the prettiest little girl ever!!! Wish I lived close so I could babysit ๐
Thank you!!!!!
My current fitness goal is to take more time to stretch after running and incorporate more yoga into my routine. Thanks for the giveaway!

Current goal is to lower body fat percentage, preferably through Thanksgiving so I can feel good about splurging a bit ๐
My goal is to get consistent with fitness again. Somehow I morphed back into too busy, too stressed, too tired, couch potato mold. My fitness levels have declined precipitously over the last several months. Looking for the magic bullet to get me back on track. Or maybe I could just try getting off my butt?

Since I had to defer my first marathon and my shins are still not cooperating for anything more than a subpar 10 miler I have taken to bikram yoga! I love it and tonight was my first time not taking a break! Now to master how to do all the poses correctly and more deeply
Wow, great giveaway! How generous of you to give it away instead of keeping it. My fitness goal: increase endurance/stamina. I want to be able to handle longer cardio and strength sessions!
My fitness goal is build muscle and lose fat! Haha, pretty basic, but I’m trying to get back on the wagon for keeps- and my goals before were always so…short term! I was always trying to “get skinny” before and working a healthy lifestyle is so much more rewarding. That’s the main reason I’m OBSESSED with your blog, it’s so positive and life-relateable! <3

Love your site! I’ve been consistently working out and running for two years but I’m recently lacking motivation to kick up my running. My goal is to get my legs and heart conditioned for a comfortable 4 mile weekly run.
My fitness goal is to increase running stamina and endurance for the Disney Princess Half Marathon in February. I am taking it slow so I don’t get hurt. And increase my strength. I teach 11 fitness classes a week now, and want to not be quite so tired at the end of the week. =)
My current fitness goal is to increase my endurance when I run…which, so far, means being careful not to start out too fast.
My fitness goal is to lose around 45 pounds and become much healthier! I really want to be able to be active with my friends in intramural leagues and play sports again.
