Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED

I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.

Run

Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:

P39089BSource

and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.

A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.

Run w liv

I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย

The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.

It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:

A BodyMedia Fit device.

So what is it?

A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.

Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:

Bodymedia

You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).

Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.

BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.

One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)

Wireless

or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).

Core

This giveaway has ended!

Congratulations to the lucky winner:

(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)

Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)

Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.

xoxo

  3. Shaya on October 4, 2012 at 12:03 pm

I’ve been working to lose the 15lbs I gained since I started grad school. So far I’m down 6lbs, but it’s been slow going! If I win this I would use it to reach (then hopefully surpass) my goals so that I can be leaner and also have more energy to keep rocking my classes ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Maggie on October 4, 2012 at 12:03 pm

Goal is to eat clean and drop a little body fat to be able to see more of that lean muscle I’ve worked so hard to build… I’ve heard awesome things about the BodyMedia Fit device – what a cool giveaway!!

  9. Britt on October 4, 2012 at 12:04 pm

My fitness goal is to strengthen my core. After a recent back injury I think it’ll help me prevent future injuries, improve my posture and up my overall confidence!

My fitness goal is 2 fold- to watch my portions and remain consistantly active in my new gym (at least 4x a week!)

  13. theresa @ aspoonfulofsunshine on October 4, 2012 at 12:05 pm

My current fitness goal is to stay as active as possible while I am letting my back heal (herniated disc)! I want to maintain some baseline fitness, but I also don’t want to re-injure myself, so I’m going to work on listening to my body.

  14. Christine on October 4, 2012 at 12:05 pm

My current fitness goal is to just be more consistent with exercise. I have 2 young kids, 13 and 11, and it gets hard to make it to the gym or even work out consistently with a full time job and tons of extra curricular activities. I’ve always wanted to try one of these!

  15. Julianna Rozycki on October 4, 2012 at 12:05 pm

Definitely increase muscle tone and lean body mass. I think this tool would really help with that.

I already like Fitnessista on FB. And by “like” I mean “super like”… obv.

  16. Heather on October 4, 2012 at 12:05 pm

My goal is to run my first half-marathon- the NOLA rock n roll half in February!

After ACL reconstruction in both knees, I just completed my first half-marathon last month (and am doing my second one this weekend!). After conquering 13.1miles, my next/current fitness goal is to lose those last stubborn 10 lbs and get as fit and toned as possible for my wedding next fall!

PS. I also like you on facebook ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Autumn on October 4, 2012 at 12:06 pm

My goal is to lose an additional 30 lbs and tighten my legs and butt. I’ve already lost 50lbs utilizing a personal trainer and changing my diet. (9 months and counting). I was 210 lbs at the start and 5’3″. I’m one size away from single digit pants!!!

    **I’m also a FB fan**

  20. Laura S on October 4, 2012 at 12:06 pm

I would love to win this giveaway! I have a wedding coming up in late Nov and currently my wedding dress fits a bit tightly in my shoulders. So I am focusing on upping my cardio to lean out! This would be a amazing giveaway to win to help keep me focused!

  24. Liz on October 4, 2012 at 12:07 pm

I’m trying to add more weights to my workout routine, and am hoping to get back into good enough shape to run another 10K. I ran the 10K for Women here in Boston 2 years ago, and was hoping to run it again this year, but that’s not happening, so I’ll just have to try for another one!

  25. Mia on October 4, 2012 at 12:07 pm

My current goal is to run (not wog!) a 5K. Any old 5K would do.

  26. Candice on October 4, 2012 at 12:07 pm

Lose 45 lbs and build muscle mass. I am an aspiring body builder and this would be AWESOME to help me reach my goal of burning off fat first!

  27. Bfriendly on October 4, 2012 at 12:07 pm

My goal is to have enough endurance to do a 15k obstacle run

  28. Megan on October 4, 2012 at 12:07 pm

My current fitness goal is to lift more and to take more classes at my gym.

  29. Lauren on October 4, 2012 at 12:07 pm

I’m getting ready for a wedding so I need to focus on overall toning but especially in my upper body and mid section.

  30. Liz on October 4, 2012 at 12:08 pm

And I’m already a fan on Facebook. ๐Ÿ™‚

(P.S. the system gets angry if you try to post too fast, haha!)

  31. Monica on October 4, 2012 at 12:08 pm

My fitness goal is to complete a half marathon. I’m also aiming to lose 20 lbs (getting back to my goal weight) through eating clean.

  32. Nicole on October 4, 2012 at 12:08 pm

My current fitness goals are to complete a 1/2 marathon & increase lean muscle mass (while dropping 10 lbs of fat). Hopefully boot camp & running 4-5 times a week will get me there. ๐Ÿ™‚

  33. Lindsey on October 4, 2012 at 12:08 pm

Gain muscle, lose fat! I’m currently following New Rules of Lifting for Women, adding cardio, and of course using your Ab burner videos that I love!

I also want to improve my running endurance. I hate running. I’m trying to learn to love it…wish me luck!

  34. Allison on October 4, 2012 at 12:09 pm

I’m running my first half marathon in about 4 weeks so that’s my number one goal right now. ๐Ÿ™‚

  35. Courtney Tucker on October 4, 2012 at 12:09 pm

Current fitness goal: to complete my upcoming half marathon without walking at all

    Thanks for the awesome giveaways!

  36. Jen F on October 4, 2012 at 12:09 pm

My goal right now is to get my body healthy and baby ready. I was an avid gym rat before having to scale back for fertility reasons and am hoping by breaking up with running and now doing more interval/strength, I’m doing my body good! I think the BodyMedia device would be eye opening for me in terms of my eats / calories / deficits.

  37. adriana on October 4, 2012 at 12:09 pm

I NEED to work on strength training! I do way too much cardio.

Oooooh, and I’m a fan on facebook!

  43. Rochelle on October 4, 2012 at 12:10 pm

My current goal is to lose weight, and add more activity into my daily life. I work at a desk for 8+ hours a day, and therefore sometimes it is difficult for me to get enough movement in my day. I’m also training for a half marathon in January, so cardio seems to be the extent of my exercise lately. Need to work on this.

Also-I’ve liked your Facebook page since I first found you ๐Ÿ˜‰

  44. Kelly on October 4, 2012 at 12:10 pm

I’m a fan on FB ๐Ÿ™‚ So excited!

My goal currently is to get more into running on a regular basis

  45. Jen on October 4, 2012 at 12:10 pm

My current fitness goal is to start doing different exercises, classes and more at home workouts. I teach 4 classes a week (Body Pump and Attack) and just did my yoga training but find I don’t have enough time to do my own workouts where I’m not teaching. So I am starting to go outside my comfort zone and try some new things. I’m loving your monthly workout calendars and am starting to add bits of HIIT and the Spooky Sweatfest workout. I am also getting married next May so I’d like to develop more lean muscle mass and really define my upper body, so this giveway would be perfect ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

  46. Juliene on October 4, 2012 at 12:11 pm

I have been dying to get one of these. My fitness goal is to have a healthy second pregnancy. I had a great first pregnancy but now chasing around a little one and taking care of myself is a little more work than I thought. This would totally help!!

  47. Ange @ The Urban Cowgirl on October 4, 2012 at 12:11 pm

    Lose fat and add muscle!
    It’s desperately needed.

  48. Jen on October 4, 2012 at 12:11 pm

I also am already a fan on facebook and just added a comment to you page ๐Ÿ™‚

  49. Lauren C on October 4, 2012 at 12:11 pm

    Increase my running speed!

  50. Courtney on October 4, 2012 at 12:11 pm

I signed up for the Disney Princess Half Marathon (You helped inspire me!) So I’ve been working on a running/fitness plan so I can finish the race.
