Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo
Gina

I’m also a fan on fb!
My current goal is similar to yours, increase lean body mass, but also lose 1-2 inches. I’m a former D1 athlete that misses her college body. I know I will NEVER actually find her again [hello almost 30] but I want to get back to feeling confident in my petite stature.
Already a loyal and happy fan on facebook
I’ve been trying to tackle mountain biking! It super challenging, but so much fun!
I liked you on Facebook!
My current fitness goal is to decrease body fat.
My goal is to get back into working out 5 days a week and build more muscle.
I’ve got the Fitbit which is similar to the device you are talking about that tracks your calories and stuff. I wore it for the first couple of weeks and then I just lost interest…. this one is free once you buy the device you can track it online through their website.
My fitness goal is to lose weight the healthy, sustainable way. And to be a good example for my 8 year daughter and 5 year old son. (I guess that was two goals! :))
Also, I’m already a facebook fan!
My main goal is to increase my strength through lifting more weights. If I lose a few pounds in the process, that would be great! With my wedding just under a year away, I’d love to see definition in my muscles again and be a few LBs lighter!
I like you on FB!! Thank you!
My goal is more muscle definition as well.. Trying not to be scared of weights. I would rather be fit then skinny!
I’m currently on a journey to lose 40lbs–I’ve lost 20lbs already and I’ve hit a very frustrating plateau. ๐ My goal is to beat the plateau by doing more strength training and mixing up my cardio routine. Also already a FB fan!
My fitness goal? I’ve got 60lbs left to lose! My exercise target is to continue running (there’s a 26.2 on my bucket list) and focus on strength training.
I want to get back into fighting shape (I have 5 daughters, most recently a 4 month-old) and run my fastest 5k ever (sub 20 minutes)!!
BTW: I’ve been lurking for years…congrats on your babe and all your life successes ๐
My fitness goal right now is to improve my stamina and to loose some extra cushioning on my belly ๐
And some motivation in form of a sexy new gadget would be most welcome ๐
Oh, and I am your FB fan already!
I’m a fitnessista fb fan already ๐
I’m trying to get my weight in a healthy range and have more energy. I’m recovering from a hip injury, and looking forward to getting back to regular work outs once my physical therapist clears me for more activity.
I’m a fan on Facebook!
I’ve lost nearly 40lbs and need to find a way to make sure I don’t put it back on with a balance of cardio and strength conditioning!
My goal is also to increase muscle tone! I would love to have one of these to keep me on track!
My current goal is to keep up with my strength and cardio as much as possible! I am 20 weeks pregnant and struggling with not being able to work out as much as I used to but looking forward to running my 5th marathon after the baby is born!
My goal is to clean up my eats and get back on the work out wagon. Up until about 3 months ago I was in a great routine, but after moving and a lingering respiratory infection, my workouts have been few and far between. Time to get back to work!
Current goal is to do hot yoga three times a week!
I want to tone up a little more and eat cleaner.
My goal is to increase definition in my arms. I’m trying to complete 1 workout per week centered entirely around arms (with some cardio bursts thrown in the mix). Usually I do circuits that are more full body type workouts. I’m hoping that focusing on just arms once a week will help with definition (and clean eats as always). Hope I win!
My fitness goal right now is to train and run a sub 2hr half marathon!
I’m also a fan on facebook ๐
As a second year food and nutrition student aspiring to become a Registered Dietitian and personal trainer, my personal goal is to become a runner and shed some extra inches. With running I know it is important to be properly nourished and as a university student it is often times difficult to keep track of how many nutrients my body is getting with going to the gym and walking to and from class. It would be fantastic to have a bodymedia to help eliminate the guess work and be on my way to reaching my goal. I have also “liked” you on facebook!
Thanks!
Ooo! I’ve wanted one of these forever! My goal is to reduce my body fat percentage and build more muscle.
My goal is to lose 10 more pounds-I’ve lost 20 since the beginning of this year. But these last ten are stubbbbbbbbbbbbborn!! I always wonder if I need to amp up the cardio or the weights, currently do both about equally.
And I liked you on Facebook ๐
My fitness goal lately has been to break out of my typical run-on-the-treadmill routine and try something new. I recently bought a groupon for some hot yoga classes!
To get back into a solid post baby routine! (she’s only one…)
liked you on FB! ๐
My goal now is just to get lean and toned. A little more pudge to eliminate!
My fitness goal is to lose 40lbs… i want to get to a better BMI and feel better in general about myself before i get planning any future little ones ๐
I’m a facebook fan already too! My fitness goals are to also increase muscle mass & definition. I definitely work the cardio more than I do strength work.
Lose my last four pregnancy pounds!! I am so close! Great giveaway ๐
I want to increase my cardio endurance! I’m super strong from twice-weekly reformer pilates, but I definitely need more cardio in my life.
My current fitness goal is to gain strength and speed through CrossFit. I like mixing up workouts with weight lifting and plyometrics, so CrossFit works perfectly for me.
My goal is to get more consistent with my workouts (cardio and strength). I do well for a few weeks but then almost once a month I’ll have a couple of days (3 days to a full week) where I won’t do anything. It’s so hard to get back into a routine after those longer breaks that I really want to eliminate them (for the most part).
My fitness goal is to get rid of my tummy by eating clean and focusing more on core strength!
I dont have facebook at work but I’ll like as soon as I can
I want to work on getting my body fat % down and building lean muscle…I could probably use more cardio in my life too.
My fitness goal right now is to stretch and foam roll every day! I find it makes a big difference in how my body feels during / after workouts.
I liked you on FB!
My goals are consistency and endurance. Awesome giveaway!
Hi Gina! I really love your blog. Even on the interwebs I’m usually too shy to comment, but hello? that thing looks awesome.
So I’m doing my first triathlon on Sunday. It’s been my goal for a few months now. I’ve been wanting to do one for a while, so I worked up the courage and signed up. I’m super nervous, but super excited! I can’t wait.
After the triathlon I decided to set some different goals, although I’m hoping tri’s will be my race of choice from now on. Afterward I think I’ll focus on keeping balanced with fitness and life (training has been intense). Definitely more yoga, I love it and I never seem to make it to a class. And then a mix of running a some weights to keep my strength up.
Anyway, your blog is great! I’m so glad I found it. ๐
Laura
I do “like” you on facebook!
My current fitness goal is to be consistant with lifting weights. It is easy for me to neglect it, even though it takes such a small amount of my time! The benefits of weight lifting are amazing!
