Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED

I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.

Run

Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:

and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.

A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.

I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย

The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.

It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:

A BodyMedia Fit device.

So what is it?

A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.

Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:

Bodymedia

You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).

Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.

BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.

One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)

Wireless

or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).

Core

This giveaway has ended!

Congratulations to the lucky winner:

(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)

Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)

Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.

xoxo

    I’m a “liker” on facebook!

  2. Nikki @only25hoursinaday on October 4, 2012 at 12:33 pm

I would love to win this!

My fitness goal is to lose the 10lbs that I’ve gained since I returned to working full time 2.5 years ago, then lose another 10-15lbs to get down to a healthy weight for my frame. I’d also love to train for a 1/2 marathon in the spring!

  3. Linda on October 4, 2012 at 12:34 pm

My current fitness goal is to work more strength training into my workouts!

  4. Nikki @only25hoursinaday on October 4, 2012 at 12:34 pm

PS: I’m already a fan on FB! Please add another entry for me!

  5. sarah on October 4, 2012 at 12:34 pm

And my fitness goals right now are more lifting…it’s always the thing I’m happiest to skip at the gym!

  6. Angie on October 4, 2012 at 12:34 pm

I am hoping to rebuild my lean muscle I lost during pregnancy and become more consistent with my cardio.

  7. Leah on October 4, 2012 at 12:35 pm

My goal is to get back into a weight lifting routine so I can finally finally do a pull up! Also I totally want that tricep/shoulder muscle line.

  8. Stephanie on October 4, 2012 at 12:35 pm

My immediate goal is to get back to the gym regularly in the AM! Things went a little nuts around here when we bought a new house, moved, and I started a job all in the same week. For the past few weeks, my schedule has been way off!

My more distant goal is to run a half marathon!! I did a 10 miler in May, half marathon here I come!

  9. Catherine on October 4, 2012 at 12:35 pm

Very cool! My dad has a BodyBugg, which I think might be similar (?). I love looking at the stats and numbers, so this thing looks right up my alley.

My goals are mostly weight loss but also endurance and strength. I have one week of Chalean Extreme left and am then going to do a Chalean Extreme/Turbo Fire hybrid. I’m so excited to start up TF! I’ve done some sneak peeks of videos and they are tough but the music and Chalene really keep you going.

Someday I’d like to get into running as well. I have done a couple 5ks but nothing past that.

As a marathon runner and fitness enthusiast, being on bed rest for four months while I’m pregnant with twin girls is hard! What’s helped is setting some goals after I’m pregnant. One of them is to first begin walking again every day and then running so I can run a half-marathon. The other is just to move as much as possible!

Current Fitness Goal: to get down to 20% body fat. Currently sitting at 23% and aiming to tone up and slim down in time for my sister’s wedding in December and then beach ready for my annual Mexico birthday vacation in February. Working toward my best bikini body yet!

  14. Allie o on October 4, 2012 at 12:36 pm

My goal is to get back my motivation to work out 5x’s a week. School and work have taken over and the gym has fallen by the wayside!

  15. Giselle@ahealthyhappyhome on October 4, 2012 at 12:36 pm

I’m currently participating in the Fitmixer bootcamp trying to increase my body muscle and lose a little body fat. I’m at a pretty healthy weight for my hieght but I always feel like I could lose a few pounds ๐Ÿ™‚

I am seeing a herbalist to get my body back in balance so it functions correctly. I also have one more mountain to conquer before the end of the year.

My goal is to maintain my fitness level throughout my pregnancy ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. Ashley on October 4, 2012 at 12:38 pm

I liked you on Facebook! My goal is to increase lean muscle mass and stamina during my runs while I train for my first 10K, which is something I would have thought would be impossible for me to run just a year ago. I am impressed with how much my body is capable of when I push myself ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. Shelby on October 4, 2012 at 12:38 pm

I would like to lose the freshman 30 before I graduate next spring! It’s so hard to find the time to exercise and cook healthy meals while trying to pull good grades and working an insane amount of hours, but I’m really trying to commit! Thank you for the awesome giveaway ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Staci on October 4, 2012 at 12:38 pm

My first goal is to keep to my fitness schedule, with so many things going on its definitely easy to veer off, especially in the winter months. And with my actual fitness and body goals, I would like to increase my muscle mass and get stronger and well as increasing my endurance.

  23. Lisa on October 4, 2012 at 12:38 pm

I have a long term and a short term…Long term is to never stop exercising:) and short term is to increase my cross training to avoid injury. I tend to get stuck in a running-only based training plan which leads me to some not so awesome Runners Knee.

  27. Whitney on October 4, 2012 at 12:39 pm

After a rather weak first trimester, I want to get my bootie back in gear and gain my pregnancy weight at a steady pace (want to avoid those stretch marks if I can and have as healthy a bebe as possible!).

I am a stats geek so I would eat this up.

  42. whitney on October 4, 2012 at 12:43 pm

My goal is to burn more calories in my workouts. I aim for about 30 mins of cardio daily- my new goal is to work harder in that 30 mins instead of having to work out longer!

  43. Diane on October 4, 2012 at 12:43 pm

I’d like to get back to my postpartum weight and cardio endurance. It’s taken me so much longer with kiddo #2!
