Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo
Gina
It’s TABATA THURSDAY!ย Pick your favorite 4 minutes of cardio justice here, and check out the October calendar for more workout ideas.
Also, I’m already a facebook fan!
I’m a loyal fitnessista Facebook follower ๐
Working out right now is a huge stress relief for me. My goal is just to keep at it and make it a priority.
We are in the process of moving from Seattle to London and over the next month it’s a bunch of stress/traveling/etc…so my goal is to hunker down once I get to London officially and lose weight and get stronger. I want to make it a habit to move at least half an hour a day.
With such huge life changes I want to make a big body change as well ๐
My current fitness goal is to increase my endurance, i was doing really well a year ago and then let life get the best of me and so I’m looking to get back on track and think this would help a lot! Awesome giveaway! Thanks for thinking of us! Tonya
i follow you on FB as well
Thanks for the giveaway! I’ve always wanted one of these, but have held back because of the financial and time costs involved. As I get older though, I really feel that one of these would be super beneficial in maintaining a healthy weight.
Anyway, my current fitness goals are to get better at swimming (took it up this summer) and get better at yoga. I love both activities, but am tired of feeling like I can just barely get through them! Time to up my game!
I read your blog daily and follow you on Facebook too! Would love to win this!
After an injury has put me out of my planned half marathon (two weeks away…sigh) I am focusing on stretching and upper-body strength training. I was devastated to be unable to run (though thankful it is only temporary) but I am trying to use this as an opportunity to get back into yoga and other things I neglected while running.
Work out more consistently and get back into shape after a long hiatus!
Current goal is to get back to pre-pregnancy shape and train for the Disney world princess half marathon! And I’m a Facebook fan already!
My goal right now is to reduce body fat!
Wow. My fitness goal…I guess I would have to say its to get my stomach flat again after having 2 children. My son is almost 8 months old, and if I wear a slightly tighter tank top I can still see my belly through my shirt -so some good cardio and strength training is part of my daily routine these days. I have also been considering doing a cross fit class, and you have motivated me to try one. I’m actually looking forward to it ๐
I like your facebook page!
Thanks Tonya
I’m running in my first race in 16 days (scary!), so I guess my primary fitness goal is to be ready for that. But entering the race was motivation to start running and lose some body fat. After the race I’ll probably focus more on building muscle again – I miss weight lifting.
Do you have any recommendations for Zumba DVD’s? When I lived in town I loved doing Zumba, but I think the closest class is now a ~2hr drive away ๐
I like the Facebook page both as myself and as my blog (Never Say Never Blog).
My fitness goal is to lose the weight I gained while in college!
Increase the amount of weight I lift in my strength training sessions. I’m back to lifting after a brief hiatus and am LOVING it, but need to kick things up a notch!
My goal is to build muscle, lean out, and eat clean ๐ I am a fan on facebook also.
I have also liked you on facebook for awhile now ๐
What a wonderful giveaway! Last year I had to gain weight due to some health problems but I gained more than necessary, so now I’d like to lose fat. Counting calories seems like the most effective and simple method, but I’m struggling with assessing how much I should eat. If I eat too little, I get an urge to stuff my face, but if I eat too much, I won’t lose weight. I guess this device would make finding that balance a lot easier.
Mine is to gain muscle mass and increase strength. I really want this, it sounds perfec! I just bought (and then returned) the Nike Fuel Band because I thought it did this – but it was so lame!
My goal is to use healthy diet and exercise to take off the extra bit of weight I gained when I quit smoking! Very proud of myself for becoming a nonsmoker, but now I’m ready to get rid of these extra few pounds that are like reminders of someone I used to be.
I’ve been lurking in the shadows of healthy lifestyle blogs for about two years with the full intention of turning my lifestyle around. I was on a great start (Couch to 5K) when I was hired for a new job that requires me to work from 8:30-7pm with a total commute of two hours a day which put an end to working out. Last week I finally came to terms with the fact that something needed to change. I got a gym membership and worked out for the first time this week doing a 2010 Winter Shape Up circuit and running two miles (albeit very slowly) on the elliptical.
Right now my goal is to figure out what changes I can make at work to positively impact my fitness and especially– just consistantly going to the gym and getting over the “I need to… clean the house/wash dishes/watch the newest episode of {insert tv show}” and transforming it into “I need to take care of myself.” Gotta start somewhere.
I liked you on facebook! And, my current fitness goal is to maintain the muscle tone and fitness level I’ve worked so hard to reach in the last 4 months!
My goal is to increase muscle tone. I’ve been working with a trainer recently and hoping to see some improvements in the near future!
Mine is to lose the baby weight. I’m working on increasing both my strength and cardio endurance back to where it used to be so I can start training for road races and triathlons again.
My current fitness goal is to increase my running endurance – hopefully I will be running a half marathon in the spring!
My fitness goal is to strengthen my core since I’m having lower back issues. I also want to focus on stretching.
Definitely increase muscle mass!
My current fitness goal is to focus on clean eating and exercise to reach my weight loss goal inst4ead of succombing to “diets”.
I also already like you on Facebook ๐
And I’ve like you on facebook for a while!
I’m with you on fitness gadgets. I love to read about them and try them out. My current fitness goal is to run a 5K again. I started jog/walking MWF 1/2 a mile. The first day my ankle/foot were not happy with me, but I foam rolled and felt better. I’m hoping that the discomfort ends soon, I’m sure as I build up strength again it won’t feel like anything.
I already like you on FB ๐
My goal is to build up my strength until I can do a pull up! I hadn’t heard of this device before but it sounds great.
Already a fan on FB!
I already like the Fitnessita on Facebook ๐
My goal is to continue to lose my baby weight.. While I ate healthy and continued to exercise during my pregnancy, I still gained 50 pounds. I still have a ways to go, but slow and steady wins the race. (Right?)
P.S. already a Facebook fan!
Facebook fan here! ๐
After nearly 2 years of being limited in my physical activity due to head trauma, I am finally allowed to resume limited physical activity. My goals are to work up to 30 minutes of cardio 5 days a week, and to build my core strength so that I’ma able to resume strength training as soon as the doctors decide it’s safe. The armband would be such a wonderful tool to help me keep track of my activity and balance my food intake with the energy I burn.
My goal? Get back to top fitness form after baby!
And grrrrrrl, you KNOW I’m a fan! ๐
Build up some core stability for sitting at a computer all day without slouching
My current fitness goals are to get a little leaner and try and do something atheltic at least 5 days a week!
I like you! ๐
My fitness goal is to get back into fitness. Sounds bad, huh? I used to run 5 miles four times a week. Then a full time schedule of classes began and I started a 30 hour/week job. Your Tabata Thursday inspires me every week. It gives me the extra push to get back into it. Immediately, I feel like I can take on anything. Reading your blog and seeing how you schedule your time makes me realize I am not the only one with a busy schedule and it is not impossible. I am committed to adding more [diverse] workouts to my schedule. Thanks, Gina!
My current fitness goal is honestly just to get back into fitness. In the past year I moved in with my bf and we bought a puppy together. I work long hours and haven’t had a lot of ME time for the gym/running. I’ve been trying to wake up early for the gym (its HARD!) and sneak in extra 15 minutes here and there during the work day. This device would help me monitor how well I’m really doing!!
Already have “liked” you on facebook!
My fitness goal is to tone it up!! More resistance training and weights ๐
