Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo
Gina
It’s TABATA THURSDAY!ย Pick your favorite 4 minutes of cardio justice here, and check out the October calendar for more workout ideas.
I want to work my bikini next summer. I have 14 pregnancy pounds to lose, (plus another 5), and some major core strength to gain. I’ve never used a heart rate monitor or anything like that, so that fancy device really intrigues me!
Mine is to get back into running once my injury is healed and lose the 10 lbs I put on ๐
My goal is to continue strength training and to get certified to teach spinning within the next year!
Also, I am already a fan of yours on Facebook ๐
My goal: tone up the midsection. Its one area I neglect to work on. Horrible timing though with candy corn season around.
My fitness goal is to maintain variety in my workouts and incorporate more strength training!
I’d love to be pre pregnancy weight!
My current fitness goal is to lose these stubborn pounds and to stop kidding myself with how I eat and how it is affecting my body!
Wow! What a great giveaway!
My fitness goal is to improve my overall strength/muscle definition to help me meet my half marathon time goal this spring! Shedding a few extra lbs would be an added bonus.
Because I’m on my feet and moving all day at work (I work for Starbucks), I’ve always been curious to see just how much I move and burn (or don’t) during an 8 or 9 hour day!!
I “liked” you on Facebook!
And I’m already a “fan” on facebook ๐
My goal is similar to your own, I have been doing mostly cardio and need to increase the amount of weight training I do. I want to change the composition of my body by adding more muscle and getting rid of the flabby bits!
My goal is to maintain variety in my workouts and incorporate more strength training!
I also forgot to mention that I like you on Facebook ๐
My goal is to lower my body fat percentage. More importantly I want to set a good example for my daughter. I have always had low self esteem and I only feel good when I am working out consistently. I lost a good amount of weight 8 years ago, but after having my daughter 1.5 ago it has been harder to keep it off. I want her to have a healthy outlook on food and working out so that is the bigger goal for myself. Be comfortable being me while kicking butt at the gym! Just liked you on facebook.
My fitness goal is to really work on my upper body strength so that I can do at least one fully unassisted pull-up!
I like you on facebook also! If there was a love, I’d do that too!
My fitness goal is similar to yours – increase lean body mass. But I also need to lose a little more body fat as well. I’ve been eating clean and strength training, as well as doing more cardio. I think the BodyMedia armband would really help me see how what I’m currently doing is working, and what I need to improve on.
My goal is to break out of my plateau! I’ve been trying to switch up my diet and fitness routine to start shedding some pounds after remaining at the same weight for a couple months now. I also really want to tone up- Getting ready for my wedding!!
Also have liked you on facebook for a while now – love the updates! ๐
I’m hoping to participate in my first triathlon early next year but with all the cardio I’m doing I’ve let weight training fall by the waist-side so my goal is to definitely up the strength training! ๐
I’m working on a 10k! I’m building from zero, but it’s incredible how quickly you can work your way up the mileage scale ๐
Just ‘liked’ you on FB and I have to say, the ‘roons are looking mighty fiiiiine today!
My fitness goal for the last few months has been to increase my strength. I used to be a cardio queen, but that just made me look bone-thin because I was also battling an eating disorder. I’m happy to say I am now a healthy weight and have gained a noticeable about of muscle recently, but I’m striving to become even stronger!
I’m going to Hawaii in January for my 10 year anniversary and running in a 15km race with my husband. My goals are to tone up, and run fast on the beach!!!
Love your blog, I’m a new follower ๐ Very inspiring how you juggle it all ๐ I liked your facebook page, fingers crossed!! I’ve had my eye on one for a loooong time ๐
I want to increase my strength and start to incorporate weight workouts more often to my weekly routine. I want to be a lean machine! ๐
my fitness goal is just to tone up through more strength training…and i already like you on fb!
I have always wanted one of these! My current goal is training for a half marathon – I just signed up for one and I am determined to finish big! I had to pull out of it last year because I got injured and I have been in an exercise funk ever since. I am hoping this gives me mojo back ๐
facebook like!
I am also a fan on Facebook ๐
My new fitness goal is complete my first marathon…2 weeks away! I already liked ya on Facebook ๐
I have been wanting one of these for a long time! But we just bought our first home so I am trying to be a frugalista.
My current fitness goal is to gain more muscle tone!
Great give away. Thanks for thinking of us!
I’m training for my first half-marathon in the spring!
I have always wanted to get one of these, but the price always made me decide not to – so thanks for giving us the opportunity!
My current fitness goal is to build up my mileage to marathon-level. I’m doing it slowly but surely!
I also follow you on FB!
I’m also working on increasing my lean body mass. As part of this, I’m trying to clean up my diet, which is harder for me than making time to lift weights. ๐
Hi Gina!!
I live in ontario, canada and the weather has started to cool off a lot already! I really love to run in the spring and summer, however, my outdoor training starts to decrease (drop off…) significantly when the fall and winter roll around. This season I am determined to keep my training up and outside!! That is the main goal!!
I LIKE you on facebook too!
I already like you on facebook – that way I don’t miss any of your posts!
I have been going spinning and taking Zumba classes hoping to lose some extra weight I recently gained. My goal is to keep taking these classes and cut out all soda and any fast foods out of my diet. Hopefully by December I can reach my goal weight! ๐ I also liked your facebook page and follow your blog daily ๐
Gina, you are AWESOME!! I have been wanting to try one of these so bad! My current goal is to be in the best shape of my life! I was in good shape before getting pregnant, but I definitely could have done better. I am five months post partum and down 67 pounds. I have been lifting regularly and am feeling like I am getting my strength back!!
I like ya on FB ๐
My current fitness goal is to run more. Those early mornings are hard!
My current fitness goal is to incorporate more dance classes into my workouts. I got injured and had to stop dancing for a while and now it’s been hard to get back into the swing of going to classes at studios as it takes more time and effort than just going to the gym.
My current goal is to get my running mojo back!
My current fitness goal is to be able to do full-body pull-ups. It’s a pretty audacious goal since I can’t even do one now!
What an amazing giveaway! My fitness goal is to lose 15-20lbs. I’ve been building a lot of strength and muscle with my workout routine, but unless I get my diet in check and up the cardio, the pounds won’t budge.
My goals are to get more lean/build muscle by managing my carb intake and try to cut back on sweets. It is hard for me to manage how many carbs I eat throughout the day because I do not like to keep food journals or count calories, fat, carbs etc. It would be nice to know how active I am on a day to day basis because I do sit a lot at work but try to get up and walk around several times a day.
My current fitness goal is to increase lean body mass (and decrease body fat)! I’m working hard to lose weight, but not end up “skinny fat” like I was for my wedding.
I follow you on Facebook ๐
I liked you on facebook! I’d love to win one of these-I’ve been considering buying one, but just couldn’t justify the cost.
