A gift from the Pure Fairy

Hi guys :D How has your day been?

Mine has been very bueno, very busy with work and everything going on!

I started to get a little worried that I wouldn’t have anything fun to blog about as my eats, workout and life have all been pretty standard today, but then THIS arrived on the doorstep!

pure market express (2)

A package of  RAW FOOD from Pure Market Express!

After seeing my friend Kristen try their food, I was so stoked when the company offered to send me some of my own to enjoy :) For those of you guys who aren’t familiar with Pure Market Express, it’s a raw food delivery service.

They were so kind to send me some Spanish Rice and Mexi Chips

pure market express

Chocolate cheesecake (which is in the freezer until Lent is over. I’ll be devouring that bad johnny on Easter day)

puremarket express

(Tip: cashew and coconut based raw desserts freeze incredibly well)

and Raw Lasagna:

pure market express (3)

Since my sweet potato was already in the oven, I decided to have what I originally planned for lunch and treat myself with some from Pure Market Express after work.

Never has a sweet potato and vegetables tasted so mediocre ;)

sp and veg

I went back to work for a couple of hours, then came home for DINNER!

I decided to roll with the Spanish Rice and Mexi chips over a bed of organic greens with cilantro:

taco salad

Awesome looking taco salad, huh???

The full review will be posted tomorrow, but I’ll give ya a hint ;)

I’m off to meet Ashley for a fun new aerobics class, but I hope you all have a lovely night <3

xoxo,

Gina

Today’s tip: If things are starting to lose their zest in the weightlifting department, try researching some variations of your favorite exercises. There is *always* something different you can do than last time (whether it’s changing your grip, position, # of reps, split, weight, anything!) which will enable your body to encourage change. Switch it up, yo :D

  1. Love it! That looks delicious – I can’t wait to hear what you think of the cheesecake once Lent is over ;) I’ve always wanted to try food from a delivery service of any sort – I’m just intrigued!

Hope that you have fun with Ashley!

  2. JEALOUS!!!!! OMG, that looks so good, i wish Sask had something like that, i doubt it would ship well haha.
I’m tellin ya i need to open up my own cafe too, Sask is so lacking.. sooo bad

  3. Gina, I love your blog for the unique recipes and fitness tips. However, I can’t help but think (and PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t want to be mistaken) that you giving up sweets for Lent seems to be less about religion and more about a pure or uber-healthy diet. As a blogger, there is some responsibility for others out there (though ultimately not total responsibility) but already health-conscious readers (including myself) may feel like they should do the same or something similar for Lent. Here’s a better exclamation of what I mean from this great body-image website: http://www.neversaydiet.com/blog-article/lent-diet

I’m not trying to attack your blog by any means, I love this blog and read it regularly! I know lots of us do this type of thing for Lent so I was wondering if you could clear that up for me, and for the sake of other readers too.

    • Fitnessista says:

      oh goodness.
the reason i gave up sweets has absolutely nothing to do with health or weight loss. sweets are something that i truly enjoy (the healthy ones, like raw and vegan treats) and i enjoy them often when it isn’t lent. i gave them up because they’re something i would sincerely miss and long for during lent, which is the purpose. you’re supposed to deprive yourself of something you love to feel it’s absence for 40 days, as a comparison to how you might feel without god in your life. like i said, it has absolutely zilch to do with losing weight or health, especially since the treats i do enjoy are usually very healthy. and for the record, i miss them. like crazy.

  4. That looks so awesome! I would love to have some pure food delivered to my doorstep.

  5. That cheesecake sounds awesome. I can’t wait to hear the review. Do you know how much it costs to get food from Pure? Do you pay per week or month? Just curious what all of that would have cost. :)

  6. Hi Gina, Do you have any tips for weighlifting for people with crummy wrists? My wrists hinder me from lifting heavier weights and it is frustrating! I have Rheumatoid Arthritis but I still try to work out (RA people have to or our muscles will waste away!). I need strong muscles to help support joints.

Do you think lighter weights with more reps would be equivalent to heavier weights and less reps?

    Thanks! I love your blog

  7. That service looks awesome, but I bet people can’t wait to be able to order from your place! Is Pure just in certain states?

  8. wow raw cheesecake?!? that sounds AMAZING. ill need to look into this service! and question: have u ever had injuries that prevented u from working out? i have tendonitis in my left arm- just wonder what you thought i shud do for arm workouts! i presently only do situps and cardio…

  9. Ow! Can’t wait to hear what class you took. The food sounds awesome! I want some raw lasagna yum yum! Looking forward to your review. How are the cafe plans coming?

  10. soooo jealous! you lucky duck :)

i know that changing up the weights routine is important but i’m worried that the newer exercises won’t be as effective as my current routine. any tips on what exercises work the same muscles so that i (and others) can know that i’m not leaving out sometime when i make the switch?

    • Fitnessista says:

just do the same exercises, but make them more challenging. for example, if you usually do lunges, try them with one leg on the bench, or holding down in lunge position for 10 seconds at the end of each set

  11. Thanks for the tip! I definitely have a tendency to do the same weights routine over and over again and end up in a rut. It’s good to remember that you have to switch it up in order to keep seeing results – and just to keep it interesting!

  12. Mmm, raw lasagna? Looks great! This is a VERY exciting post, I should say :)

  13. Wow, that food looked awesome. I especially would like to try the lasagna! My eats today were ho-hum too, I had a little bit of this, then a little bit of that…LOL

  14. I love that there’s a raw delivery service out there! Their stuff looks awesome, too! Can’t wait to hear what you think of the taco salad. ;)

(And that’s some willpower keeping that cheesecake in the freezer! I have some Coconut Bliss waiting for me come Easter, and it’s hard!!)

  15. That looks delicious! How expensive is it?

  16. Mmm yum looking eats!

I know you have some recipes posted, but since I have a dehydrator gathering dust, I figured I’d suggest a readers request post of fun dehydrated snacks & meals?

    Happy humpday Gina!

  17. oh i love PME food! i can vouch for that choco cheesecake and i don’t even like cheesecake! will be worth the wait i promise! the raw pad thai is ah-maze as well. rebecca=super chef! i got the sampler menu to try and was thrilled with my food :D enjoy

  18. I’m excited to see what you think of the lasagna! That’s one of my favorite foods.

  19. SO many rawgasms :)

  20. Oh wow, how delicious does that food look! I can’t wait to see your review of the meal, yum :)

  21. Very Vegan says:

A week of meals is $175 and shipping costs an additional $95. This delivery service sounds delightful, but at $1000+ a month (for only one person!) it is quite unaffordable for most (certainly for me). $1000 exceeds most families’ food budget for an entire month. However if I had loads of $$$, I would totally use their services. On the positive side, the meals on their website have given me lots of ideas for my own cooking adventures. :)

  22. What a fun package to find in the mail! Lucky duck!

  23. Yay!!! I’ve had a few things from Pure Market Express and loved all of them! If you place an order in the future, you’ve got to try the coconut yogurt! It is AMAZING! I hope you enjoy the lasagna too. I know I did. :D

  24. Oh I am dying to try some of that cheesecake. Holy yum!

  25. I can’t wait to hear about the raw food samples! Hope you are having a great week :)

  26. Who knew there was a raw good delivery service?! How cool!
Talk about willpower by sticking the cheesecake in the freezer :) Everything looks uber delicious!

  27. Nice….I have been wanting to order from them for a while now! Curious to see what you think!!!

  28. G$!!! I’ve been having may-jah commenting issues lately – I didn’t abandon you, I promise! What a fun piece of mail! I can’t wait to hear the reviews (espeically on the cheesecake) because everything sounds great.

  29. So many Raw goodies, can’t wait for a review of them all.

  30. What fabulous looking food! I’ve always said that if I could afford to hire a chef to deliver meals for me everyday, I totally would! Well, that + someone who would wash my hair everyday. :)

  31. Emilyeatsclean says:

Raw food delivery service?!?!?! How COOL!!!!

  32. gina! i have a question for you (since you seem to be well educated!) what do you think of hemp hearts? do you ever use them/like them/ etc? just been doing some reading and i would love to know your opinion. ps i also gave up sweets for lent. its been a long 1.5 weeks… ha!

  33. I can’t wait to read about the raw lasagna! I love that the expiry date is ‘yummiest by’.

  34. Oh my goodness your dinner looked delicious! I can’t wait for the full review.

  35. Hi Gina!
I was just wondering what kind of dressing you use on your salad beasts, especially those with goat cheese? Do you just use balsamic or do you add a little olive oil?
    Thanks!
    Sarah

  36. Oh yay!!! You get to enjoy Pure Market Express too. I adore their cheesecake. You won’t be sorry you savoured it. I am coming to the US next week for 8 days so I think i will place another order with them, not only for me, but for my passengers, They love their food!

  37. Yum! I loved my Pure Market delivery. Though I have to say, your boring lil yam looks yummy, too.

Or maybe EVERYTHING you make looks yummy to me :-)

  38. Those all look crazy good!! I wish they shipped to Canada =(

    xo

  39. A raw food service? That’s awesome! The cheesecake looks amazing. Can’t wait to get a full review!

  40. Mmmm that Pure food looks yummy. I enjoy having my servings pre- portioned for me. The calories in the sampler pack (for what I choose) were at 1418- similar to what a person might have on one of those national meal delivery diet plans. The nutrients and quality of food far surpass that of prepackaged weightloss meals- I bet the taste does too! The cost is comparable (my shipping option showed $45). I am definitely interested in trying this for a week. Question- do you eat the foods cold? Like straight from the fridge? I have tried in the past to make raw foods and I end up wasting a lot of money when they don’t turn out well. So, something like this will at least allow me to know what the foods I have tried to make are supposed to taste like.

    • Fitnessista says:

i ate the mexi rice cold and it was glorious. i might set the lasagna out at room temp for a couple of hours before eating it.
the rice was seriously amazing, i can’t wait to try to the lasagna

  41. I can’t wait for the full review!! If that stuff is as good as it looks I might have to order some myself. I’m going to check out the website to see if they deliver to my state right now…

  42. The food from Pure looks great…right up until you get to the Styrofoam packaging. Boo! It feels a little selfish to be so worried about putting just ther “right” things in our bodies without giving any concern at all to the environment.

    • Fitnessista says:

yeah that’s true. do you know of another way they could insulate it that would be more eco-friendly??

      • Just make it yourself at home? =) I’m not picking on you, Gina. I just hate stuff like that. I know we will never be able to be completely eco-friendly. I just think we all need to raise our consciousness a bit…even if it takes a little more work and planning on our part. Have a great day, girl!

        • Fitnessista says:

yup, which is why we usually eat at home. i could definitely see myself ordering this if i were working the 90+ hour weeks i used to, and will definitely order as a fun treat :)

  43. The Pure food looks good. By the way your Sweet Potatoe Black Bean Chili is wonderful (especially w/ cornbread)! I finally had to make it.

  44. Those 3 raw eats look delish! Raw foods are so creative. Especially that lasagna. Doubt my husband would ever be down with calling that a lasagna, but I’d totally love to try something like that.

  45. yum!!! pure express sounds soooo delish!! :) that taco salad looks amazing! :)

great tip! it’s always nice to change something that can be so boring up to make it more exciting!

  46. I can’t wait to hear the review on the cheesecake! What a lucky duck you are!

    K

  47. I’m eating some of their cheddar cheese and crackers RIGHT now!! Might have to try the Mexi rice next time!

  48. Oooh this sounds wonderful! Who knew there was a raw delivery service??

  49. That food looks delicious! and who knew there was such a thing as raw cheesecake..? awesome! lets hear a review!

I have been wondering this for a long time, maybe someone here can clear this up for me, are yams and sweet potatoes the same thing?!?
there is so much talk about the health benefits of sweet potatoes, can you get the same thing from yams? (please someone say yes, because i am obsessed with yams)

  50. What an awesome thing to get at your front door. Spanish Rice and Mexi chips look yumm-o!
