Weighted Forever

Hey friends! How was your Friday? Hope you had a wonderful day 🙂

Before I set off on work to-dos this morning, I made the Pilot some blueberry scones:

scone

(Nothing too crazy- they were the kind you pop out of a can, but the healthy kind from Whole Paycheck)

and also had a date with something I recently brought back in my life:

weights

Weights!

This girl has not touched weights probably in over a month. I have this thing that if I like something, I’ll go crazy with it. I really think that Bodypump temporarily burned me out from weights. I was doing it about 3 times a week for quite some time, and then it got to the point where I didn’t want to see a barbell again for a loooong time. So I didn’t 😉 Sometimes it’s a great idea to stop back, let your body refresh and start again.

I actually started lifting again last week, right before the Pilot came home, and it feels SO GOOD to be back at it.

Post-workout fuel:

shrimp

(2 pieces of brown rice bread with goat cream cheese, smoked salmon, egg and capers, salad)

Perfection <3

So my job today was to find and price some items for work, so it involved shopping 🙂 Of course, I was a fan.

I found so many things I LOVED:

buddha

(In my dream world, my house would be filled with Mexican skeletons and Buddhas. People would probably be afraid to come over, haha)

Snackage was a Xoom juice with almond milk, blueberries, banana, strawberries and a scoop of Sun Warrior from my purse 🙂

xoom

This afternoon, the Pilot and I went to acupuncture together- it was his first appointment ever.

He was a little apprehensive…

pilot

The verdict?

He loved it!

At one point I glanced over at him and he was totally crashed out. He looked so cute with a needle sticking out of his forehead 😉

Well it’s dinner time over here, so I’ll see you guys tomorrow!

Hope you’re having a great night <3

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: When was the last time you were burned out on something? What random snacks do you have in your purse? 🙂

Your dreamworld house would look so cool! Okay and maybe a little creepy lol. 😉

Yay for weights, they are awesome! Even just the occasional bit of weight training has done so much for my running!

i love weights, makes me feel so strong.
my bf loves buddas, we have a few around the house!

I’m thinking about going to acupuncture, i think i could really benefit from it. How do you find a good one though? what do you look for?

    • Fitnessista on March 26, 2011 at 12:11 am

i think word of mouth is the best way. i’d ask friends and ask you favorite yoga studio 🙂

    Hehe, so cute 🙂

The last thing I burned out on was cooked oatmeal. I can eat it raw mixed in with fruit and yogurt but for some reason, when I make it hot or even overnight oats (which I guess technically aren’t cooked) they are so unappetizing I can’t even take more than a couple bites!

In my purse I always have liquid stevia, a bar, and nut butter packets! Glad the Pilot liked accupuncture 🙂

  5. Brittany (Eating Bird Food) on March 26, 2011 at 12:45 am

I got burned out on running after my half marathon. After all the training and running the actual race, I decided to take a nice long break. I did other things for 2-3 months and then slowly started running again. It was the perfect way to change things up for a bit.

  6. Danielle (Shrinking and Studying) on March 26, 2011 at 1:05 am

The last thing I burned out on was definitely the elliptical. I absolutely can’t stand spending even half an hour on it anymore – it’s SO boring!

I have french vanilla stevia packets (for my coffee!), elevate me! bars, and a ziploc of protein powder in my purse 🙂

  7. Amanda on March 26, 2011 at 1:07 am

My friend does cosmetic acupuncture, I love it! You and your man are sure a cute couple.

“What profit is the image, that its maker should carve it. The molded image, a teacher of lies, That the maker of its mold should trust in it, To make mute idols? Woe to him who says to wood, ‘Awake!’ To silent stone, ‘Arise! It shall teach!’ Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet in it there is no breath at all. But the Lord is in His holy temple.”
    Habakkuk 2:18-20

    Because I luv ya.

I was burned out with my entire workout routine for a while. I just kind of started slacking off, so I decided I better make a new one. It worked!

  10. Emma (Namaste Everyday) on March 26, 2011 at 1:33 am

I know what you mean about scaring friends with your decour. I am living in New Zealand, and there is a lot of beautiful (to me) Maori art that I’m thinking are actually a bit creepy…

  11. Paije on March 26, 2011 at 1:34 am

I love weights, even though I use little ones 😉
You are the pilot are just adorbs. I reaaally want to try acupuncture. Hopefully soon!

  12. Suzanne on March 26, 2011 at 1:40 am

    My purse snackage includes:
-Those individually wrapped prunes for when I literally need just “a bite.” What a colossal waste of plastic though, right?!? Because of my eco-guilt, I try to make my own little snack packets of those by parceling out a prune or two from a larger container and then packaging them into tiny bits of folded paper, which I re-use when I’m done for the next round of snack packs.
-Salmon in the pouch. Highly transportable protein? Yes, please. Woop, woop. Moreover, pouches sell for a mere $1 a pop at CVS. Delicious, nutritious, and cheap—the three criteria, in order, by which I select my vittles.

Also, is it too late to jump in on the Q & A? Here’s mine for you and the Pilot: morning, night, or afternoon delight? I think you know what I’m talking about….

  13. sarah (sarah learns) on March 26, 2011 at 2:18 am

i burned out on…coffee! i was having several glasses per day for a while, and i finally got really sick of it. now i miss it and let myself have it a couple days a week. i don’t want to get addicted again because when i stopped wanting it, i got AWFUL headaches for about 3 days. yuck.

i always have larabars in my purse. i offered one to a friend once who had never had them before. she took one bite, spit it out, and told me it tasted like earth. lol. apparently she doesn’t like the taste of “earth”….

  14. Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing on March 26, 2011 at 2:26 am

I totally burned out on running. And I have no intention of amending that 😉 I finally realized running does not equal healthy, and it just wasn’t working for me anymore, in a variety of ways.

Thought of you when I contemplated buying a groupon-type thing for a massage today 😉 It is such a deal, I think I’m going to do it…!

  15. Kristin on March 26, 2011 at 4:02 am

I usually carry around a kind bar in my purse, crazy diets make fallbacks a necessity.

  16. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on March 26, 2011 at 5:45 am

I burn myself out on certain things b/c I go all or nothing, i.e. Mary’s Crackers, flavored coffee, certain salad dressing but if I give it a break for a month or so…I am back in love with that flavor/thing.

I love that you and Pilot are into the joint accupunct sessions. That is so cute 🙂

And your perfect house…Mexican skeletons and Buddhas….Oh trust me, if I had the real estate and square footage to do it, I would LOVE to make some/all of my house very yoga shala -ish. Very zen, feng shui, rocking buddhas and crystals everywhere. I love my West Elm and modern furniture but would also love to rock the Buddhas, too 🙂

  17. Eimear Rose on March 26, 2011 at 6:09 am

I think switching it up is a really great way to 1) improve fitness 2) keep interest/motivation. Glad you guys enjoyed the acupuncture. I could be better about carrying around snacks- I always take more fruit into work than I’m likely to eat in the course of the day and I keep oatcakes and a jar of PB in my drawer. I keep meaning to add some long life unsweetened soya milk and tinned salmon (i.e., protein) to the stash.

  18. Emma (ecoprincess) on March 26, 2011 at 6:23 am

That budha is awesome – he looks so chilled up! I burn out on things all the time. If I find a new food or recipe I love, I’ll eat it all the time! Until I get sick of it. I need to remember to keep mixing things up so I don’t get bored!

Sometimes I think I’m over weights, but then I get some new moves and fall in love again. It’s one of those things will dread, but once I get started I’m all about it.

Love that you carry protein powder! I usually have an emergency mini-Think Thin bar (chocolate toffee is my fav). No sugar and 6g of protein – perfect if I get stuck between meals. 🙂

  21. Katie on March 26, 2011 at 7:45 am

Love that buddha! I love buddhas too, they are just so peaceful to me ; )

I get burnt out from workouts too, I try to always switch them up, I like switching them up at home, make up my own intervals, it’s more fun! I blast the radio, go in our fitness room, and always set a timer, to make sure I get a decent workout in, and I just go with what Im feeling that day ; )

    Have a great day love!!!

How is the no almond butter thing going?! My no cereal is doing good actually, I just stay away from the cereal aisle when grocery shopping , lol!

I always have trader joe’s fruit strips and a pure bar in my bag, gotta be prepared just in case! After my half marathon in November I took off from running until Feb. It was such a nice break!

  23. Nicole @ Fresh & Fit on March 26, 2011 at 8:06 am

The only thing I have ever burned out on is coffee. I got to a point where I was forcing it down. One day I said to myself, “Self, why are you still drinking it if you don’t like it”. The next day, when I didn’t have coffee I knew why I kept drinking it. WITHDRAWAL!!!! The next two days of detox were nasty. I had excruciating head aches, the shakes and anger! Now I function great without coffee. Replacing it with decaf green tea was a great change!

  24. Cara Craves... on March 26, 2011 at 8:48 am

My purse snackage as of late has been my own
    PB cinnamon popped corn. Divine!

I’m actually feeling a little burned out by BodyPump, too. All of a sudden, I found myself unmotivated to get to class, whereas before, I was more than psyched to get there. So now I’ve been doing some weight routines with my little 5 pounders at home, using Exercise on Demand. It’s great! 🙂

  26. Holly @ The Runny Egg on March 26, 2011 at 8:56 am

This happens to me all the time — like right now I’m marathon training and all I want to do is lift weights!!! But during the rest of the year when I’m not training and I’m spending more time doing other things and weights, all I want to do is run! I really need to start doing a better balance of all those things.

  27. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on March 26, 2011 at 8:58 am

I was so burned out on school just a week ago! I got a concussion, the flu and then had finals on top of that! Worst two weeks ever.

  28. Molly on March 26, 2011 at 9:13 am

I always carry almonds in my purse! As for getting burned out on something…I live in the Midwest, so right now it I am really burned out on WINTER!

    • Molly on March 26, 2011 at 9:14 am

oops, minus the *it*. Sorry! What an English teacher I am!

  29. fran hlavacek on March 26, 2011 at 9:28 am

I am pretty burned out on working out in the “traditional” way. I have recently gave myself permission to ENJOY Zumba instead of checking my heart monitor, and go for walks with my pup and DH instead of taking off on a solo run. Yoga is a workout, yoga is a workout… (new mantra!)

I always have a Kind bar in my purse. Mostly the nuttier ones more than the dried fruit kind. Found a place online that was really reasonable so since DH & I are both Kind bar fans, I buy a few boxes at a time stick them in the freezer to keep them fresh, and we are always supplied!

    Peace,
    fran

  30. Jocelyn on March 26, 2011 at 9:33 am

So funny you wrote this post because I haven’t been lifting a lot either since I recently became addicted to spin class and just don’t have the time for both! Since you are just starting up again after awhile, can you maybe post some new weight workouts or let us know what routine you did today?? I’m most probably going to do one from one of your seasonal shape ups before spin today 🙂

  31. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on March 26, 2011 at 9:42 am

I was feeling burnt out a couple of weeks ago. I’d been working by boo-tay off at work for a solid 4 weeks and I had a cold. I was trying to keep up my workouts in the morning before work because they usually energize me for the day, but I ran out of breath SO quickly. I switched over to cross training and kept my weights routine going, then made sure I got lots of sleep. I feel about a million times better now, and I think things will only improve as our weather gets nicer and the snow melts! My mood is always more cheery when it’s warm outside! 🙂

  32. J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on March 26, 2011 at 9:48 am

I need to be more consistent with my weight training. It’s so easy to get on a cardio streak and stay there, lol.

I’ve wanted to try acupuncture; it’s so fascinating to me. 🙂

  33. rebecca lustig on March 26, 2011 at 9:52 am

I definitely burned myself out from hot yoga. I went from loving it to dreading it, which was really hard for me to cope with… I’m still apprehensive about returning to it,a ctually

  34. nnd on March 26, 2011 at 9:56 am

Hi Gina, I need to gain weight and am doing no cardio.
What is a good and very effective weight routine I can do at home (effective)…I feel horribly because all I do is lazy walking.
Also, is a 30 g scoop of protein powder (whey) too much to have just at one sitting? (like at breakfast). I usually do that and wonder if its way too much? I’m not exercising after all.

  35. Dana Marie on March 26, 2011 at 10:16 am

yay a gia post – oh I miss having an oven, scones are delish – but I’m not even making enough to pay my rent, alas –the pilot looks cute in that pictures – different expression from the others- hope the acupuncture was nice – I haven’t ever done that – I think I’d do a massage before that –
I actually got burned out on Zuzana and am doing the Chalene workouts now, but I really just put on my own music and sort of mix the exercises with them playing in the background. Sometimes I prefer jumpy jumpy shay and sometimes hard body Zuz a lil slower with strength reps
    ok peace out blog

    • Dana Marie on March 26, 2011 at 12:37 pm

oh and snackage in my excessively heavy backpack for auditions (which I am TOTALLY burned out on) I include a little tuppercontainer (they hold like 1/4 cup?) with sunwarrior that sometimes I put maca or flaxmeal in too for water bottle mixer.

  36. Jessica @ Dairy Free Betty on March 26, 2011 at 10:37 am

I LOVE buddhas too!! I have quite a few of them inside and outside in the garden!

  37. Kelly @ Laughter, Strength, and Food on March 26, 2011 at 10:50 am

I tend to get burned out with certain foods. If I find something I really like, I will make it and eat it over and over again until it really doesn’t taste good anymore.

  38. Jill on March 26, 2011 at 10:51 am

I usually have an apple in my purse, or some string cheese. I work in a daycare and everyday while the kids have their afternoon snack I eat an apple. They know it’s snack time when Jill goes to get her apple! I never eat “bad” foods in front of them because I know they look up to me and like to copy me and I want to show them that I like eating fruits and vegetables. Some of the things parents send with their children for lunch are so awful–all processed crap and no fruit or vegetables at all. It’s sad.

  39. Bex on March 26, 2011 at 11:01 am

My house IS full of Mexican skeletons and Buddhas, although the Buddha collection is larger than the Mexican skeletons right now, I have an entire wall of shelves with Buddha’s. That’s not weird is it?

    • Fitnessista on March 26, 2011 at 11:30 am

not weird at all- that’s amazing

  40. Amanda@RunningOnCoffee on March 26, 2011 at 11:19 am

I’m learning to like weights. My bootcamp is like what your body pump class sounds like, and I do it once a week so I don’t get burned out. I guess there are times I have been a little burnt out with running, but as long as I do a good job of keeping my runs varied (speedwork, easy, long, etc) I’m good. I don’t usually carry snacks on me… aside from bringing my lunch to work with me in the morning. I do have a drawer of snacks at work though including some dried fruit, nuts, kashi bars, tea.

  41. Ashley @ Feeding Ashley on March 26, 2011 at 11:39 am

I don’t get burned out very easily with one particular thing. I had a pb&j for lunch everday for 2 years! When I do a lot of things at once, particularly with school work, that’s when I want to crawl up in a ball and wait for everything to pass me by.
I usually keep larabars and fruit in my purse for random snackage.

  42. Stacy @ LoveDiscoveryGratitude on March 26, 2011 at 12:17 pm

After running my first marathon- I was soooooo sick of running! I didn’t do it for about 4 months! Now I’m training for another marathon. Go me, lol.

  43. Amara on March 26, 2011 at 12:28 pm

I teach weights at what my gym calls “sculpt and burn”, and so I’m free to change up format as much as I like –not stick to the bodypump plan, and I’ve found when I do –like to a superset day, or a stations circuit day, it helps to waylay the boredom –I hope. Can anyone give feedback on what they’d like to see in a weights class? Or some other ideas to make it more fun? Sorry if I’m hijacking the comments Gina!

  44. Sheena on March 26, 2011 at 12:34 pm

Are those scones from Immaculate Baking Company? I think their cookie doughs are great for making homedade-tasting cookies in a pinch but was wondering if the scones are equally good since in my store they are kinda pricey. So did the pilot love ’em?
