What’s your move goal?

Fitness pick-up lines at their finest. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hi hi! Howโ€™s the day treating you? Weโ€™re having a good morning over here. Weโ€™ve been making a conscious effort to go to bed earlier, which means I donโ€™t feel like so much of a zombie in the morning. #worthit My goal of waking up before the kiddos may actually become a reality! Iโ€™ve never been a morning person (except for when I was forced to), but Iโ€™m determined to make it happen. Except for the weekends, of course. ๐Ÿ˜‰

This post is a little bit all over the place, so I thought Iโ€™d pop in and share some things from lately.

1) Instant pot coconut chicken curry. This PaleOMG shrimp recipe is a staple around here, and I decided to use it as the inspiration for this Instant Pot chicken curry. This is seriously a dinner game-changer. I saute everything together, add the broth, cook for 15 minutes, add coconut milk, and dinner is served!

Hereโ€™ the breakdown for this fast and furious weeknight dinner:

-Chop the veg: 1 sweet onion, 1 bell pepper, 1 large zucchini, and 2 medium to small sweet potatoes (peel first)

Chopped veg

-Saute in a little olive oil in the instant pot, adding 3 cloves of minced garlic, 1 teaspoon fresh mined ginger, and 2 diced chicken breasts. Season well with salt and pepper

(I also added in a can of the baby corn because the girls love finding bites of it in curries)

Instant pot

-When the chicken is browning, make the broth: 1/3 carton chicken or veggie broth, juice of 1 lime, 1 heaping tablespoon almond butter, 1 heaping tablespoon honey, 1 heaping tablespoon green curry paste, and 2 teaspoons fish sauce)

-Close the Instant pot and set on the stew/meat setting for 15 minutes

-Let the pressure release for about 10 minutes, then release the rest of the pressure. Stir in a can of coconut milk.

-Serve on top of jasmine rice with chopped cilantro or basil + lime wedges

2) The Pilot keeps laughing that weโ€™ve switched places. Heโ€™s been eating extremely clean latelyโ€ฆ like oatmeal and fresh salads during the day and lots of protein. Iโ€™ve been over here living my best life lately. Usually I feel like heโ€™s the one ordering dessert when Iโ€™m not really feeling it, and now Iโ€™m the one coming home with frosted sugar cookies from the grocery store. I feel like itโ€™s beneficial for eats to ebb and flow depending on how youโ€™re feeling. Sometimes you just need a real cookie, ya know?

Tollhouse cookies

3) Speaking of cookies, I ordered some Paleo baked goodies and was super excited about them. They were not good. Even Liv wasnโ€™t happy with them, and she usually loves anything sweet. It makes me just want to make something like this or this instead.

4) Whatโ€™s your move goal?? When I saw my friend Betsy in Las Vegas we were talking about our Apple watches and Iโ€™d already hit my 3 circles (move, exercise, and stand) for the day. She was like, โ€œWhatโ€™s your move goal?โ€ and I was like, โ€œ380โ€ and she said, โ€œWHOA! Mineโ€™s 600.โ€ and I was like โ€œWHAAAAAT.โ€ Obviously you should do what works best for you, but I was curious to hear if you had a move goal each day? Do you strive to hit a certain amount or steps, or a move goal on your Apple Watch?

5) The girls have worn their Moana and Belle dresses every day this weekโ€ฆand itโ€™s pretty much the cutest ever.

 6) Off to teach barre! Weโ€™re going to do a leg combo similar to this one. Buckle up, quads.

Iโ€™ll have a new workout video up for you in the morning!

Have a happy humpday!

my move goal is 560… the worst is when sunday comes around and it’s rest day… i just rarely ever hit it! I walk the dog twice every day. but because i don’t workout… that move goal doesn’t happen… i don’t feel bad about it!

My move goal is 400. Every week it suggests I increase it, but I was up at 600 at one point and got super frustrated if I couldnโ€™t meet it. There are just times when I need a rest day or get stuck sitting too much at the office and I just canโ€™t do anything about it. I find I get frustrated and just give up. With a more reasonable goal, itโ€™s more realistic for me to meet it and then sometimes Iโ€™m even motivated to do more because I want to double it or whatever. The Apple Watch personal competition struggle is REAL! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Fitnessista on March 28, 2018 at 10:26 pm

i totally agree! i like being able to hit it on a consistent basis. it’s motivating, and yes the personal competition struggle is real

The curry recipe looks so good and I’m definitely going to try it! Looks like a good meal prep option for lunches to take to work. Just want to confirm…there is no curry powder in the curry?

    • Fitnessista on March 28, 2018 at 11:43 am

SHOOT lol. Maybe I should have written that down. Itโ€™s a tablespoon of green curry paste

  4. Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious on March 28, 2018 at 11:40 am

I still strive to get my 10k steps in, but I also realize that some days I’m just doing strength training and that’s not always gonna happen.

    My move goal is 540

    • Fitnessista on March 28, 2018 at 10:26 pm

i’m so fascinated by all of this ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Angie on March 28, 2018 at 12:54 pm

My move goal is 600. It was lower and then Apple kept suggesting I change it. I make it almost every day even if it is a day that I only walk the dog. I really like the move goal as opposed to steps so that my 8+ miles of swimming a week count!

    • Fitnessista on March 28, 2018 at 10:25 pm

i totally agree! it makes me feel like i don’t have to swing my arms around on the spin bike ๐Ÿ˜‰ (i totally used to do that with my fit bit)

Hi Gina! Do you have any advice on working out with an injury? I recently broke my ankle and need to find workouts I can do! Thanks you!! <3

    • Fitnessista on March 28, 2018 at 10:25 pm

ahh i’m sorry to hear about your ankle! what did the doc say about it? mat pilates is usually a good choice for injuries <3 i would try that mixed with upper body strength

  8. Laura @FitMamaLove on March 28, 2018 at 1:35 pm

That curry looks delicious and perfect for weeknight dinner! Also, those cookies are beautiful!

My move goal is currently 450. It used to be 500, but on strength-only days, I was struggling to hit it. I try to hit 500 still (and easily get there on cardio days), but it makes me feel better to hit my move goal more consistently, so Iโ€™m sticking with 450. I wish there was an option to mark a day as a rest day, so it would quit bugging me when I donโ€™t make it one day. It drives me nuts to have my watch encouraging me to be active in a rest day!

    • Stella on March 28, 2018 at 4:27 pm

I want the rest day option too! As a type A, it is hard for me to feel like I am not doing enough…and my watch keeps reminding me. Urgh! I feel like I’ve found 400 is a good round number for active and rest days with some long walks on rest days.

      • Stella on March 28, 2018 at 4:43 pm

Ha! As another Stella I am totally on the same boat! I’m currently at 620 for my move goal (I am 5’10” of course, so I probably burn more calories than most), but I really like meeting my goal every day and wish there were a rest day option too! I suppose we could just go and change the move goal every day…

        • Fitnessista on March 28, 2018 at 10:23 pm

yes, i wish we could say it’s a rest or travel day ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on March 28, 2018 at 10:24 pm

i feel the same way! i like hitting it consistently, even if it’s low some days. i wish i could tell it that it’s a travel day, too. when i’m sitting on an airplane or in the car, it’s constantly vibrating telling me to move

  9. Emily @ Always Emily H. on March 28, 2018 at 5:04 pm

My move goal is 500. I love seeing what other people’s are!

    • Fitnessista on March 28, 2018 at 10:23 pm

i like hearing about it, too!

  10. Christianne Warlick on March 28, 2018 at 7:59 pm

My first move goal is 300. My second move goal is to double it and hit 600. I usually triple it. Right now Iโ€™m at 960 but I wonโ€™t change it from 300 because I like my rest day.

    • Fitnessista on March 28, 2018 at 10:23 pm

ohh i like having a double goal. on the days i teach, i burn way more but on strength training and rest days, i obviously don’t. i wish i could tell my watch to chill haha

  11. Kacie on March 28, 2018 at 8:13 pm

My move goal is 350! I have a 5 month old baby so I feel pretty awesome when I actually hit it!

    • Fitnessista on March 28, 2018 at 10:17 pm

      i feel ya!

  12. Lexi on March 28, 2018 at 10:14 pm

Keep in mind that move goal is also relative to size! I โ€œshareโ€ on Apple Watcg with several friends who I also frequently run with, and we will meet first thing in the AM for a run, run together, and all have drastically different move results after bc of our varying sizes. Itโ€™s because your calorie burn is based on your height and weight. So my friend who is 5โ€™11โ€ burns way more calories doing the same run than my 5โ€™4โ€ self!

    • Fitnessista on March 28, 2018 at 10:17 pm

i figured that probably had something to do with it! i also think it’s because i’ve been teaching for so long.. i’m used to working out at higher intensities and being able to talk at the same time, so i don’t burn a ton of calories

  13. Michele on March 29, 2018 at 6:41 am

I keep mine at 450 because I know I can consistently surpass it without obsessing!

  14. Calry on March 29, 2018 at 3:59 pm

My move goal is 450. I easily hit it on days I workout. I don’t want a goal so ambitious that I never meet it. I don’t often hit it on rest days, but I far surpass it on workout days so I figure I’m pretty balanced ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Vince on April 2, 2018 at 4:18 pm

You’re right – the post is a bit all over the place but I love it. I don’t have an Apple Watch but for moving, I try to remember that what I do won’t look the same each day. Sometimes I will do a lot of walking, other times I might do something much more intense physically for a shorter duration.

  16. Amanda on April 3, 2018 at 11:18 am

I’m still in fitbit world with a few other commenters. ๐Ÿ™‚ My goal is 12K per day. Sometime it’s a struggle during the workweek and I get in the sneaky steps where I can. Lunchtime breaks at work are key for both step count and mental sanity! Weekends are much easier and more fun because I have more time for fun walks.
