Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.ย
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy ๐
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo

It’s TABATA THURSDAY!ย Pick your favorite 4 minutes of cardio justice here, and check out the October calendar for more workout ideas.
Hi Gina! I’m set to give birth as a surrogate before the end of the month, so my fitness goals for the past year or so have been pretty basic (just to keep moving-I have a 3 year old and I want to show her that fitness is always an important part of healthy living). Starting next month though, I want to get back into running, so my goals are to increase my stamina, endurance, and lean muscle mass.
Also, I am a Facebook fan.
My current fitness goal is to be able to run a half marathon in May and get stronger overall!
A couple of priority fitness goals include lowering my body fat % and decreasing my pace for running (for example, I would like to get my 10K pace down to 9:45/min/mi)
I’ve been sidelined by a back injury since January. While I’ve managed to only gain about 5 pounds I am suffering from serious “redistribution” of weight! What was previously muscle has become flab due to fewer and less intense workouts. ๐ This would a great tool to try to get back in last year’s jeans with my current exercise limitations.
I’m currently working on increasing my speed! I just did a 200 mile race with 12 other people and was averaging 9:30 min/miles I would love to get that down in the 8’s!
My current fitness goal is to increase my strength. I’ve never loved strength training so sticking with it has been an issue in the past. We’ll see how it goes this time :).
I would love to get stronger & run a half marathon! I have signed up for one in January and am now starting my training plan.
Hi Gina,
My fitness goal is to lose weight.
My fitness goals are to stay in shape for canyoneering and right now I am training for the summit challenge (hike 7 peaks in Phoenix, 23 miles, and 6,000ft elev.). I also try to keep up training for backpacking in Grand Canyon, which is a bear in itself and keeps me more focused on working out. I love HIIT training and want to add more muscle.
I want to get a stronger upper body! Running is great for the legs but leaves my arms and core on the scrawny side.
I like you on Facebook ๐
I’ve recently gained weight (first time living on my won in college an all…) so I want to get back to my old fitness routine and back to where I was- proud of my body! And I’d like to get into running!
My fitness goal is to lose weight and build muscle. I feel this device would be an amazing tool for me.
already like ya on facebook ๐
My fitness goal is to compete in my first Olympic length triathlon in the spring, despite my ongoing battle with Achilles tendinitis. I’ve done sprint length tris before but want to take this next step towards my dream of eventually doing an Iron Woman. It won’t be easy, and I’ll have to be patient and listen to my body (something I’m not always good at!) but I know that slow and steady will win the race for me on this one. …oh and I have been a Facebook fan for a while ๐
My goal is to lose body fat and be consistent working out and eating healthy. Also, I want to run a 5k (oct.28), 10k (nov.4), the sears tower lung run (feb. 23), and then the Chicago Spring Half Marathon!!
I’m trying to work on getting back into the groove of working out. I had surgery in June and took about two months to feel back to normal. Between working full time and taking graduate school classes, I’m finally starting to figure out how to work fitness back into my schedule.
I’m doing the Couch 2 5K program and I’m planning to run my first 5K in November. So excited!
And I’m already a FB fan. ๐
Definetly also increasing lean mass. Been having trouble getting out of a slump lately.
My fitness goal is to do at least 45 minutes of brisk physical activity a day!
I liked your facebook page ๐
My goal is to continue to build more lean muscle. I’m hoping that by doing so, I’ll drop one more size!
My goal is to run my first marathon ๐ I’ve been a runner for 7 years and haven’t ran a race yet out of fear of failure…. So time to sign up and face my fitness fears ๐
Just in time! Im starting to get serious about health. Ive let myself go this past year. I want to be
Be stronger. Leaner. Better. Be confident!
To build more body mass for sure! And to be more diligent with weight lifting!
Just in time! Im starting to get serious about health. Ive let myself go this past year. I want to..
Be stronger. Leaner. Better. Be confident!
And by the end of this month. Thank you Gina!
My current goal is to do some kind of exercise 4 times a week.
My goal is to stay healthy & injury free in my fitness regime. Iv been terrible with things like over-training, not stretching, not enough rest, etc, in the past:/.

My current fitness goal is to lose the last 10lbs of my pregnancy weight (these pounds have been hanging on for nearly a year!), so that I can get ready to have baby # 2! ๐
My goal is to improve my overall fitness by varying up my exercise!! I am boringly repetitive and I know that isn’t good for overall fitness/developing muscles. I currently walk, but am thinking of taking a few group fitness classes and adding in some weights. It would be fun to track my progress.
Doing a combo of the Jamie Eason workouts and ZWOWs, I feel pretty strong, but I don’t look as strong as I feel. I’m trying to take the “great bodies are made in the kitchen” motto to heart and improve on my portion control with a calorie counting app.
My current fitness goal is to constantly change my workouts. I often fall into routines without much diversity and then don’t see the results I want.
Awesome giveaway!

my fitness goal is to max my pt test, 50 pu’s 80 su’s 1530 2 mile run. pu’s are the hardest for me!
I’m working on building up my endurance, especially running longer distances.
I always say my goal is to lose some the extra 10 lbs. that I’ve put on in the last year, but I started realizing that I keep saying it and haven’t put a plan in action, so my current goal is to exercise for a minimum of 45 minutes at least 3 times a week. I like running, body weight exercises and yoga…so I plan to start with these favourites and then add in some free weights.
I also already LIKE your page on facebook ๐
My current fitness goal is to lose 20 lbs. I am 11 weeks postpartum and have hit a wall ๐
My goal is to heal. I have been hurt for a quite a while and have been focusing on wellness with mobility exercises and qigong. Last week I began to slowly re-introduce cardio. It is tempting to overdo – but I’m trying to be smart and long-term oriented.
My current goal is to be able to do full pull-ups, and a handstand!
I just recently started running, and my current fitness goal is to run the entire 5k at the end of this month. Doing The Color Run!!
A marathon PR in the spring!!! ๐
my current fitness goal is to run a 5k in under 25 minutes! I just recently am getting back into running and would love some motivation ๐
My goal is to be a healthy weight (which means losing some) and to get stronger.
