Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED

I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.

Run

Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:

and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.

A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.

I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.

The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.

It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:

A BodyMedia Fit device.

So what is it?

A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.

Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:

Bodymedia

You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).

Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.

BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.

One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)

Wireless

or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).

Core

This giveaway has ended!

Congratulations to the lucky winner:

(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)

Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)

Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy 🙂

Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.

xoxo

I underwent emergency tumor removal in January and because it was a whopper (size of a large mango) lodged in between my muscles, my surgeon removed my rhomboids and latissimus dorsi leaving me limited range of motion on my right. My new fitness goal is to regain mobility and upper body strength on my right.

Love your blog!!! Livi is adorable 🙂

My short-term goal is to lose 5% of my body weight. I plan to do that by signing up for Weight Watchers, and this would be great motivation for the exercise portion of it!

I would love to win one of these, as I’m trying my hardest to lose weight. And it’s hard knowing what exactly I’m burning. I’ve finally made a habit of tracking everything I eat, so next step is to incorporate fitness into my everyday routine. That’s been the hard part. But I think something like this would really help me get motivated to workout every day (with a rest day of course). My current fitness goal is the “31 days of Jillian” challenge they’re doing at Mama Laughlin’s Fit Camp!

  41. Mashell on October 5, 2012 at 9:47 am

My goal is to maintain my weight loss and increase my lean body mass. I am 52 and just lost 70lbs. Actually, this is the third time in my life I have lost this weight, and have eventually put it back on. This time I am determined to keep it off.

  42. Julie on October 5, 2012 at 9:53 am

My goal is also to increase lean muscle mass and strength – and, just as importantly, to enjoy my journey to get there!

  43. Shari B. (FitFeat) on October 5, 2012 at 9:58 am

Hi Gina! What a COOL gadget! My fitness goal is related to my upcoming 40th bday (OMG I still can’t get my brain around the fact that I’ll be FORTY!!! I still feel 25 in my head!!) We’ll be going on a cruise to celebrate it so I’m aiming to add more muscle to my physique before then. I want put more emphasis on protecting those bones as I head into middle age, LOL! 😉

  44. Megan on October 5, 2012 at 9:59 am

I’ve been a long distance runner my whole running career (I just ran my first marathon in March!), so I usually run between 11-12 minute miles, but now I’m focused on getting faster, and I’m trying to improve my 5K time to under 30 minutes.

  45. Suz on October 5, 2012 at 10:12 am

I liked you on Facebook – great giveaway!

My current goal is to lose some of the summer weight I put on!

  46. Michelle C on October 5, 2012 at 10:13 am

This is awesome! I’ve been wanting one for awhile but haven’t bitten the bullet to buy it because of how pricey they can be. My current fitness goals are twofold: 1) Get rid of the 10 pounds I gained during/after marathon training. (Run all the miles! Eat all the food! rooooookie mistake.) and 2) Clear up the plantar fascitis that i’ve been having so I can run (and walk to work) pain free next year!

  47. Michelle C on October 5, 2012 at 10:14 am

And i’ve been a FB fan for awhile now!

  48. CrysCabral on October 5, 2012 at 10:19 am

Love this idea! Thanks for reminding us that everyone has a goal, even The Fitnessista herself! My personal goal (now that I’ve become a post-grad lady and LOVE my womanly hips) is to get them toned! I want my “skinny jeans” to become my “regular jeans”. =]

  49. Crystal on October 5, 2012 at 10:24 am

    fan on facebook too!

  50. Amanda on October 5, 2012 at 10:24 am

My goal is to get back to my “happy weight,” all those summer beers and bbq’s have caught up to this girl!!
