Reader Review: BodyMedia Fit giveaway-ENDED
I’m kind of obsessed with fitness gadgets.
Not really in the sense that I own a ton of them, but they fascinate me. For some, I can never get over how ridiculous (or inappropriate?) they are:
and others, I watch and notice other runners or gym-goers using them before doing my own research and potentially committing to a purchase.
A couple of the things I thoroughly watched and researched before biting the bullet and getting my own: the iPod (it scared me for a long time, as does most technology, but it’s so much more useful and user-friendly than I imagined), the heart rate monitor (I use my Polar for almost every workout) and the Garmin for running.
I’m the same way with popular fitness DVDs. Even if I don’t commit to the workout or follow the specified plan, I enjoy watching them occasionally to get new moves for my classes and personal workouts. Some of the best I’ve tried: Physique 57, Insanity, Zumba, Shiva Rea and TurboFire.
The first time I did TurboFire, I couldn’t help but wonder what the heck some of the participants were wearing on their arms.
It wasn’t a heart rate monitor or iPod, so after a quick Google search, I found something similar:
A BodyMedia Fit device.
So what is it?
A device that assists with meeting fitness goals. You wear the armband throughout your day – it tracks how many calories you burn, how many steps you take, when you were most active and how much sleep you get. You can send this data to a computer or smartphone, enter what you eat and set goals. The activity manager keeps you on track with specific feedback about your progress.
Here’s an idea of what the dashboard looks like:
You do have to have a subscription to access the dashboard ($6.95/month and first 3 months are free).
Anyway, when I first found out about it, I was excited to eventually add one to my collection, but after I became pregnant and wasn’t trying to reach any new fitness goals, I didn’t think it was necessary.
BodyMedia recently offered to send me one to try, but instead I thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive their choice between the wireless device (which uses Bluetooth capabilities to transport data to your computer)
or the Core (which connects to the computer via USB).
This giveaway has ended!
Congratulations to the lucky winner:
(I did a random number generator for the page the winner would be on, then the comment on that page- so page 13, comment 11)
Since I didn’t hear from this giveaway winner in two weeks, I picked a new winner via Facebook challenge. (10/21)
Congrats, girl! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll send it along to the BodyMedia fairy 🙂
Thank you again to everyone for entering! Stay tuned for lots of awesome giveaways.
xoxo

It’s TABATA THURSDAY! Pick your favorite 4 minutes of cardio justice here, and check out the October calendar for more workout ideas.
My current fitness goals are similar to yours! I am trying to lose body fat and increase muscle mass by incorporating more weight lifting into my weekly workout routine!
I am also already a fan of the facebook page! 🙂
My fitness goal is to trim my waist down 3 inches and I hope to do that by stepping up my cardio and incorporating heavier weights 🙂
would love the fit bit to try and manage the amount of calories — never can tell if I need more considering the amount of cardio I do.
Forgot to say my fitness goal in my previous comment..to try new classes. I already tried jazzercise and body pump recently and next in my list is bar method and spinning..also trying new hiking trails..I like you in Facebook 🙂
Complete a 65 mile bike ride at the end of the month. I need to step up my training!
I’m a FB follower 🙂
My main fitness goal this year had been to train for and complete my first 50k distance trail race. So far, so good – the race is next week Sunday!
After I complete this race, my goal will be active recovery and to start back with Body Pump classes 2x a week. I haven’t done Pump since May, and I really miss it.
I like you on FB, too 🙂
One more comment… The South Park episode where they parody the shake weight… LOL!
My goal is to continue to get lean and lose the 10 pounds.
I’ve been working so hard on my body this year and after 12 years I am finally starting to love the way its looking.
My fitness goal is to do more cardio and work on losing this belly!
I also like you on Facebook! 🙂
I would love to lose 5 lbs, but mostly to increase my muscle while cutting fat.
I am currently trying to lose weight. I was on track till I got married and lost focus on staying healthy.
I’m also a Facebook fan already 🙂
Since I am pregnant right now my fitness goal is to have a healthy pregnancy! Trying to get in a little activity everyday, and eating healthy foods.
Facebook follower!
I’m a facebook follower!
My goal is to keep moving to keep the pounds coming off! The more I move the better I feel and the better I eat.
My fitness goal is to lose some body fat. I was just diagnosed with a thyroid condition but i still have a long road ahead of me in order to get rid of the excess weight that i have gained in the past 6 months.
Rights now, I have two fitness goals. I want to start road bicycling (hoping to get a group together with my brother) and to try out different fitness classes to ward off getting bored. Once I get bored, those extra pounds come a creepin’ ugh!
Oh I am also a facebook follower 🙂
Right now I am trying to get back to my pre pregancey weight. I am on week three of Insanity and loving it. I also signed up for a 1/2 marathon in April.
I just liked you on facebook.
I am 39 and currently pregnant with my first baby! I am working to stay healthy and in shape, but know I have an uphill battle after my baby is born. My true fitness goals will start then.
I’ve really been trying to gain some lean muscle mass. I started lifting weights a few months ago and I’m hoping to see more gains as I add more weight.
My goal is to loose the couple extra pounds that crept on while I was in Italy and celebrating my birthday last month. I need to get back on track with my healthy eating and fitness goals!
My current fitness goal, is to just get out there and move! I’ve been off the exercise routine for a while now, and I desperately want to get back to it. I just moved so I’m hoping that will encourage me to get outside and explore my new area, but this would really help me out!
My goal is to consistently weight train 3 times per week. I always get there 2 times but for some reason have difficulty getting that last day!
I am already a fan of your on FB! HAve a great weekend!!
My goal is to maintain the weight loss I achieved with help from my personal trainer and to keep up with the fitness routine that I have worked so hard to establish.
Have a fantastic weekend! 🙂
My goal is to work up to running one mile, then a 5k! Starting slow 🙂
My current goal is to run my second marathon – most likely the LA marathon.
My goal is to keep up the cardio (4x a week) and lift at least twice a week. I love gadets too and think they are so great for motivation.
After two years of endurance racing (Ironman triathlons) I somehow came out 15 lbs heavier…. (it’s amazing how much one can eat after a 7 hour bike ride). Now that my last race is done for the season my fitness goals for the fall/winter are to find new ways to workout that get me into better shape and don’t take 15-20 hours/week. Let the interval training begin!
My current fitness goal is to include strength training each week. I have no problem with cardio, but strenghth training isn’t as fun for me.
I’m trying to lose the 15 lbs I gained after quitting smoking. So far, I’m down three pounds!
I would like to increase lean muscle and cardio indurance. I was bummed when I missed the deadline for this awesome giveaway…..so glad you were extra sleepy last night!
My fitness goal is to exercise consistently and clean up my eats. I also would like to lose weight and feel better about myself.
I’m so already a fan of fitnessista on Facebook!
My current goal is to start working out more regularly. After a long day at work and taking care of my son, working out is not always my top priority. However, I know it always makes me feel better so I need to put it at the top of my to-do list. I am a charts and check off my list kind of person, so I think something like this would really help me stay motivated.
My current fitness goal is to find my abs. I always focus on my arms and my legs so now I want to get these abs toned up too!
My current fitness goals are to drop weight and gain muscle. I have gotten into Jazzercise and am trying to learn all the moves! I liked you on FB last night.
My current fitness goal is to lose the remaining baby fat (I have a 5-month old).
I’m already a fan on Facebook. 😉
Would love to lose that elusive last 10 lbs. Had it off for a while but it has crept back on despite maintaining my fitness routine. Maybe I need to shake it up a bit with a new gadget??
My current goal is to complete the couch to 5k program I’ve started and finish a race by the end of the year.
My fitness goal would be to work on positive self-image, I really struggle with that. I’m already a fan on Facebook!
In the past year I’ve worked really hard and lost some weight, reaching my end goal! Now, my fitness plan is to build up some serious lean muscle by working just as hard 🙂
I’ve been a facebook fan for a while now <3
Liked the Facebook page 🙂
Hi,
I liked you on Facebook. 🙂 My current fitness goal is to qualify for the Boston marathon on Dec 1st when I run my next marathon. That may not sound like a fitness goal but, let me tell you, the training plan that I am following is certainly improving my fitness! I am running 5 days a week (a challenge for me as I love to cross-train and realize the benefits of it). I have been pushing myself to run like I never have before: weekly speedwork at the track, tempo runs where I run faster for a certain # of miles, and long runs where my last few miles are at marathon pace. It’s very hard but it’s so rewarding when I’m done and have hit my paces. Not every run is perfect so it pushes me to work harder and do better the next time I run. I also know that there is a mental aspect to this too so it will be a mental/physical challenge and goal. I keep reminding myself that “the body achieves what the mind believes”.
